Nicole Frankel is a freelance flutist in Atlanta, where she has recently appeared with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Augusta Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, and Sinfonia Gulf Coast. Previously based in Chicago, Nicole holds tenure as Second Flute in the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, a position she won in 2015. She has performed with orchestras throughout Chicagoland, including the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Nicole completed her M.M. in Flute Performance at Indiana University in 2014, where she was an Associate Instructor of Flute and was granted the Jacobs School of Music Artistic Excellence Award. Prior to that, she held the position of Third Flute and Piccolo in the Ocala Symphony Orchestra while pursuing undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. Nicole's principal teachers are Thomas Robertello, Jennifer Gunn, and Dr. Kristen Stoner.
In addition to her orchestral career, Nicole is an avid chamber musician. She is Flutist and Co-founder of the Atlanta new music collective, ensemble vim, currently in its first season, as well as Flutist of The Zafa Collective (Chicago). A member of the American Chamber Winds since 2011, Nicole has completed international tours of the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland, and Brazil, and has performed on multiple albums released by Mark Records.
Nicole has held summer festival fellowships at the National Repertory Orchestra, Le Domaine Forget, and the Orford Academy. She was a Finalist in the Florida Flute Association College Young Artist Competition in 2012 and a Quarterfinalist in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition in 2019. Nicole has performed in masterclasses for Emmanuel Pahud, Robert Langevin, Carol Wincenc, Denis Bouriakov, Jill Felber, Jasmine Choi, and Jeffrey Khaner.
Nicole is a passionate educator with 12 years of teaching experience. Recently relocated to Atlanta, she currently has openings for students of all ages in her private studio. Nicole previously maintained an active flute studio in the Chicago suburbs. She also has experience as a Teaching Artist with the El Sistema USA program of music education.
